  Introduction
  
  Nowadays the investigation of language of publicist style is very popular in different branches of linguistics. It is connected with the fact that the main task of modern publicistics is not only to give urgent information but also to create public opinion, influence life values and manipulate recipients. As for newspaper style, its research is considered to be particularly topical because newspaper articles affect readers, attract recipients’ attention, express emotions, and carry out pragmatic peculiarities. The role of stylistic devices and expressive means used in publicistics is especially great. Consequently, the topicality of the present work consists, firstly, in the great interest of scientists of different branches towards publicist texts, secondly, in insufficient information of figurative potential of different stylistic means in the newspaper articles.
  The aim of the work is to examine stylistic devices and expressive means in publicist style.
  In order to achieve the aim of the work the following tasks are determined:
  1. To study the definition of functional style and its classifications.
  2. To characterize publicist style.

  1. Theoretical part
  
  In this chapter we are going to analyze different scientific approaches to a notion of functional style on the whole and to determine the place of publicist style and newspaper style in the system of the functional styles. We intend also to examine main character features and aims of these styles and discuss the linguistic and stylistic peculiarities of newspaper vocabulary.
  
  1.1 The definition of Functional style
  
  Language is a system of means of expression which functions with a definite purpose. Depending on aim and means of expression it is possible to distinguish a range of style in every language which are, in the essence, reflections of a link between plane of content and plane of expression.
  Style is a system of concrete usage of phonetic, lexical and grammatical means of a language which denote a speaker’s attitude towards the content of the utterance (from neutral to bright evaluative) [25, p.58].
  Speaking about different styles of language, linguists mention the so called functional stylistics. The founder of functional stylistic is prominent Russian linguist V.V. Vinogradov who distinguished three main functions of a language: function of communication, function of message and function of expression [8, p.5-6]. Function of communication has a non-special and non-emotional content. Lexical units which perform this function are characterized by synonymic, polysemantic and homonymic language means. .........
