    INTRODUCTION

English is the main language in many places, an important language in others, and spoken as a second language in most of the rest of the world. However, there are some significant differences in pronunciation, spelling and word usage around the world. The clearest distinction is between what can be loosely called the Commonwealth and American varieties of English. Many areas - Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and other former British possessions in Africa, Hong Kong, Singapore, India, Pakistan, Malaysia, and current and former British possessions in the Caribbean - (not all of them Commonwealth members) generally follow British rather than American usage.
Varieties of English are the different kinds of English used around the world. Often these are geographically based. The varieties are more or less similar and while most English speakers can understand each other, there are occasional problems.
The present graduation bachelor paper deals with the study of the typical mistakes in Еnglish spelling and pronunciation.
The objective of our research is to analyse one of the most difficult problems facing non-native speakers of English – spelling and pronunciation. It is usually the largest obstacle to overcome when trying to achieve fluency. Many non-native speakers have studied grammar for many years but are unable to speak like native speakers due to their inability to pronounce the sounds of words properly. The research is based on the analysis of common spelling mistakes in English.
According to the objective of this bachelor paper, we can identify the following tasks:

CHAPTER I. A SHORT HISTORY OF THE ORIGINS &DEVELOPMENT OF ENGLISH

    1.1 Varieties of English

Dealing with main varieties of English, we can talk of:
    American English (AmE)
    Australian English (AuE)
    British English (BrE‏‎)
However, there are many other varieties and virtually all countries where English is spoken has their own variety. Sometimes these are very closely related but other times they can be very different.
In addition, each main variety of English has sub-varieties or regional variations. For example, within the British English variety we have: Cockney, Essex English, Geordie and so on, not to mention Scottish English, Welsh English and Irish English.
There are also socio-economic varieties of English. The Queen speaks Received Pronunciation which is very different from the Black English spoken in America, for example.
English has been the native language of England for over 1,000 years. Due to various cultural, economic, migratory and other reasons the language spread across the world to what became the USA, Canada, Australia and many other countries. It was also used as the lingua franca in many other places (often countries which formed part of the British Empire).
    1. American English (AmE) [4].
Broadly, the varieties of the English language spoken and written in the United States and Canada. More narrowly (and more commonly), the varieties of English used in the U.S. American English (AmE) was the first major variety of the language that developed outside of Britain.
